Instructions for updating your computer for 10-digit dialing

Select your operating system:

Windows 95/98/ME

  1. Double-click on My Computer
  2. Double-click on Dialup Networking
  3. Double-click on the govital icon and select Dial Properties
  4. Click Area Code Rules
  5. Place a check in the box next to "Always dial the area code(10 digit dialing)"
  6. Click ok and then ok again.
  7. Check that the phone number is listed as 519 253 9992
  8. Click Connect to save changes and connect

Windows 2000

  1. Select Start -> Settings -> Network and Dialup Connections
  2. Right-click on the govital icon and select Properties
  3. Confirm that the Use dialing rules box is NOT checked
  4. Change the phone number to 519 253 9992
  5. Click OK

Windows XP

  1. Select Start -> Control Panel and double-click on Network Connections
  2. Click View Network Connections
  3. Double-click on the connection you use to dial into govital.
  4. Click properties
  5. Confirm that the Use dialing rules box is NOT checked
  6. Add 519 to the Phone number 253 9992
  7. Click OK

Macintosh OS 8.1 - 9

  1. Open the Remote Access control panel from the Apple menu
  2. Change the phone number to include the area code: 519 253 9992
  3. When you close Remote Access you will be asked to save the change to the configuration, click yes

Macintosh OS X

  1. Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu or click the System Preferences icon in the dock
  2. Click the Network icon to display its preferences
  3. Click the PPP tab and add the area code to the numbers listed for the main number: 519 253 9992 (you may leave the the alternate blank)
  4. Click Apply Now and quit System Preferences
