This step-by-step procedure will get you configured to use your Windows 95 or Windows 98 computer with the dial-up networking services provided as part of your govital subscription. You will need to have a hardware modem installed in your computer, and that modem connected to the telephone line before you can make a connection.
While connected to the Internet, you will not be able to receive calls on the telephone line that you are using for dial-up networking.
Step 1:
On your Windows 95/98 desktop, double click on the My Computer icon. Then double click on the Dial-Up Networking icon. You can remove icons in that window, except the Make New Connection icon, if you would like. The next steps will add a new icon in this window that you can use to establish your connection with govital.Step 2:
Double click on Make New Connection icon and enter govital for the computer name and press Next. Use area code 519 and the numberStep 3:
Now you should see the new govital icon in the Dial-Up Networking. Now, left click on govital icon once, and it should be blue. Right click on it and left click on Properties from the pop-up menu. Now take out the check mark where it says Use area code and Dialing Properties.
Step 4:
Now click on the Server Types tab (in Windows ME click on Networking tab). Remove the check marks where it says:- Log on to network,
- NetBEUI and IPX/SPX Compatible.
Make sure you have checkmarks next to:
- Enable software compression
- TCP/IP
Right click on the govital icon and select Create Shortcut from the pop-up menu. This will create the govital icon on your desktop so that you can connect without having to through the Start menu.
Step 5:
Close the Dial-Up Networking window. Now you should be back in My Computer. Double click on the Control Panel. Double click on the Internet Options icon. In the address field type http://www.govital.net (If you have Internet Explorer 4 or higher. Click OK. Now you are ready to setup your E-mail.Step 6:
Now you will be configuring your e-mail. To configure Outlook Express E-mail, follow the following steps. In this example, assume your govital user name is username and your password is abcxyz.Your e-mail address is then username@govital.net. Replace username and abcxyz in this procedure with the actual values that were given to you when you signed up.
Step 7:
Start Outlook Express from the Start menu, or click on the Mail icon in Internet Explorer. Click on Tools and then Accounts. Click on the Mail tab. Click on the Add button. Click on the Mail item.Step 8:
Enter your Full Name as the Display Name. This is the name that will be on the e-mail that you send to others. Click on Next. Enter your e-mail address provided by govital. This should be username@govital.net. Click on Next.Step 9:
Make sure the incoming mail server is type POP3. Enter mail.govital.net for the Incoming POP3 and Outgoing SMTP server. Click Next. Enter your username as the POP account name. Upper or lower case matters. Please double check your username as you type it. Also enter your assigned password. Again, upper and lower case matters. Click Next.
